The study, which included 20 trials, found that regular consumption of cranberry juice can help reduce the risk of developing a UTI. In fact, participants who drank cranberry juice were found to have a 27 percent lower rate of UTIs compared to those who consumed a placebo liquid.

Aside from preventing UTIs, the study also found that individuals who consumed cranberry juice had a 49 percent lower rate of antibiotic use than those in the control group. This is significant as overuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, making it harder to treat bacterial infections in the future. While cranberry juice is not a replacement for modern medicine, it can serve as a complementary treatment to help reduce the need for antibiotics and prevent recurrent infections.

Despite the promising findings of the meta-analysis, researchers stress the importance of conducting more randomized controlled trials to further validate these results. Questions still remain about the optimal dosage and duration of cranberry juice consumption for UTI prevention. Additionally, more research is needed to understand how cranberry juice may impact individuals of different ages and genders.
